Moxie

I think some important aspects of the film were probably lost on the cutting room floor, and I think if this had been reworked properly it would be that much better of a film. If they had maybe cut out the whole Lucy/Claudia/Vivian friendship triangle it would have glided along better. Ultimately, the side characters, who aren’t disengaged white girls with pretty privilege, are probably the ones who should be telling this story and the ones who are the most interesting.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu

I’m not even going to get into the mechanics of the animation which are varied in execution. For every positive thing I can say about the fur on Pikachu, I can say fifty horrible things about the eyes on that Psyduck and the lips on those Greninjas, who all looked ridiculously hacky.

Everything, Everything

Sick-lit has become a formidable genre of YA ever since the blockbuster success of John Green’s The Fault in Our Stars. It’s spawned similar books, films, and television shows, and there’s generally an element of romance attached.

The Fundamentals of Caring

Craig Roberts has been one to watch since his great turn in Richard Ayoade's "Submarine," and currently he is both acting and directing in a lot of great films and British television. He and Gomez have sparkling chemistry onscreen, and it's a pity that she doesn't act more. Between this and "Spring Breakers," Gomez has shown serious artistic growth in her acting choices in the past five years

Beyond Clueless

While not every point is completely fleshed out throughout the film, each case study serves the overall thread of the film, which is to show that teen films exist because of a societal need. Teenagers are the most disregarded, misunderstood group in our society. They themselves can't fully explain, or understand the range of emotions that they go through.

If I Stay

These flashbacks center around Mia’s on-again-off-again relationship with boyfriend Adam (Blackley), which pushes the film more towards relationship drama than supernatural drama. Though much of what makes this a tearjerker lies in Mia's ties to her family (and is the main conflict within the film) the action keeps coming back to this relationship.

The Spectacular Now

Miles Teller has blown up lately, starring in films like the new "Fantastic Four," and "Divergent" film series. The main reason he keeps getting roles is that he can play the offensive, assured smart ass pretty well.

The DUFF

The film advocates for women to all get along, the class structure of high school being demolished, and everyone feeling beautiful about themselves. On the flip side it features unrealistic dialogue, unrelatable characters that have strange motives, and it's really not all that funny.

Paper Towns

It's not that the book is bad, but it often gets caught up in trying to be deeper than it need be. Though the book is unlike a lot of other fairly known teenage comedies, everything feels inauthentic, from the trashy dialogue to the meandering plot.

We Are Best

Three teenage girls, completely in love with the idea of a punk revolution, form a band and become best friends. There's a lot to love about this film, but it's the characters that continually engage and made me laugh.

The Source Family

The documentary includes testimonials from many of the original family members, many of whom renounce the actions of their former father, but still believe in the ideologies of Eastern religions, healthy living, and spirituality

It Follows

There's a lot to admire about this film. Much of it feels, looks, and sounds like an eighties' horror film. Between the synth score, the hazy, seductive look, and the lack of pure logic to accommodate visual choices, it’s a definite throwback
