Still, the film lightly prods at universal truths: women have to be perfect if they want to be seen as electable, special interests have a decided vote in our elections, and concessions are often a part of negotiating international treaties. For a film trying to play coy about our current predicament, that’s a pretty impressive accomplishment.

The Incredible Jessica James

James C. Strouse is swiftly becoming one of my favorite indie directors and writers with the inclusion of this Jessica Williams star vehicle. She previously starred in his 2015 film People, Places, Things where she played a talented student in a graphic writing class. In this film she is the principle character, and my goodness, does she shine through in all her exquisiteness.

Mr. Right

Playing opposite her is the equally talented Sam Rockwell, who is undercutting his trademark majesty with a role as a burbling, manic depressive hit man; who works under a moral code to only kill those who have hired him to kill. Somewhat out of the blue he decides that he fancies Kendrick, and she him, and they wander around New Orleans becoming best buddies.
