Luckily there are two superb voices still left in modern filmmaking, who make movie musicals with a streak of humble nobility: John Carney and Damien Chazelle. Though you may not know their names, you undoubtedly have seen or heard of their beautifully poignant movies.
What’s missing from this sub-genre, are more films geared towards women. Raunchy, subversive, and absurdist are all monikers not often attached to films about girls becoming women.
Like a lot of people I usually find independent films that I want to see by going to Hulu trailers and watching to my heart’s content. There are several films that I have been eyeing, and though you never know how good a film is just from its trailer, these films are looking mighty interesting:
